How to get from Kavala to Thassos
There are two ferry routes: Kavala port to Prinos on Thassos (about 1 h 15, a few sailings a day), or a 45-minute drive or bus to Keramoti and the frequent ferry to Limenas (about 35–40 min). Car ferries run on both routes.
Best option: Ferry. Thassos is an island with no bridge or airport, and the Keramoti–Limenas ferry is short and frequent.

Common questions
Which ferry route should I take?
Keramoti–Limenas is the shortest crossing, about 35–40 minutes, with frequent sailings, but you need to get to Keramoti first, about 45 minutes by car or bus from Kavala. Kavala–Prinos leaves from Kavala itself and takes about 1 h 15, with fewer sailings. Choose by where you start and where you are staying on Thassos.
Do I need to book the ferry?
Usually not. Tickets are sold at the ports on the day, and ferries run often between Keramoti and Limenas. In August and on summer weekends, car queues can be long, so arrive early. Foot passengers rarely have problems finding space on any sailing.
Can I take my car?
Yes. Both routes use car ferries. Car fares are modest compared with many Greek islands. If you are flying into Kavala airport and renting a car, check that your rental company allows taking it to Thassos, as some charge extra or restrict ferry use.
Can I do it as a day trip?
Yes. With frequent ferries from Keramoti, a day trip is straightforward. You can visit Limenas, its old harbour and archaeological sites, and some beaches. To see more of the island, such as the mountain villages, plan to stay a night or two.
