How to get from Ikaria to Samos
Ferries link Ikaria (Agios Kirykos or Evdilos) with Samos (Karlovasi or Vathy) in about 1 h 30 to 3 h, depending on the ports and the boat. There is no flight between the two islands, so the ferry is the only option.
Best option: Ferry. The ferries on the Piraeus–Ikaria–Samos line are the only direct link between the islands.

Tips
- Agios Kirykos is on the south coast of Ikaria and Evdilos on the north; check which port your ferry uses.
- Karlovasi is on the west of Samos and Vathy on the north-east; choose the port closest to where you are staying.
- Fourni, a small island between the two, is a stop on some sailings.
- Strong north winds can cancel or delay ferries, particularly from Evdilos.
Common questions
How long is the ferry from Ikaria to Samos?
About 1 h 30 to Karlovasi and 2 h 30 to 3 h to Vathy, depending on the vessel and whether it stops at Fourni. Ferries leave from Agios Kirykos or Evdilos on Ikaria. Check current timetables, because many crossings are late at night and schedules change with the season.
Can I fly from Ikaria to Samos?
No. Both islands have airports with flights to Athens, but there is no flight between them, and flying via Athens would take far longer than the ferry. The ferry is the only practical way to make this trip, and it also lets you take a car if you need one on Samos.
Which Samos port should I choose?
Karlovasi is the closest to Ikaria and serves the west of Samos, including the beaches around Potami. Vathy (Samos town) is in the north-east and closer to the airport and Pythagorio. Pick the port nearest to where you are staying; taxis and buses link them in about 1 h.
Do I need to book the ferry in advance?
Outside July and August, foot passengers can usually buy tickets at the port or online on the day. In peak season, and especially with a car or a cabin on night sailings, book ahead. Booking online also confirms the departure time and port, which can change.
