Tips

Common questions

How long is the train from Florence to Verona?

High-speed Frecciarossa and Italo trains take about 1 hour 30 minutes, some directly and some with a change in Bologna. Regional trains via Bologna take about 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours. Check the number of changes when booking.

What is the cheapest way?

Early-booked high-speed fares can be as low as regional fares, at around €20, so booking ahead is often the cheapest way. Regional trains via Bologna have fixed prices of about €20–25 but take one to one and a half hours longer. Coaches can also be cheap, though they are slower than the high-speed train.

Can I do Verona as a day trip from Florence?

Yes. With high-speed trains taking about 1 hour 30 minutes, you can spend a full day in Verona seeing the Arena, Piazza delle Erbe, Juliet’s House, the Roman theatre and Castelvecchio. Check the time of the last high-speed train back to Florence, especially if you plan an evening at the Arena opera.

Do I need to book?

High-speed Frecciarossa and Italo trains require a seat reservation, which is included in the ticket; booking a few days ahead gives better prices, especially at weekends and in summer. Regional trains do not need booking and have fixed fares you can buy on the day. Validate paper regional tickets before boarding.
