Tips
- Fill up and pay A22 tolls by card at the barriers; the motorway is busy on Saturday changeover days in ski season.
- Bolzano station is in the centre, a short walk from the bus station.
- In summer, avoid crossing the Sella, Gardena or Pordoi passes at midday when traffic is heaviest.
- If you return a rental car at Verona airport, allow 20 minutes from the city.
Common questions
Is there a train from the Dolomites to Verona?
The Dolomites resort valleys have no railway, so you first take a local bus to Bolzano, Trento or another station on the Brenner line. From Bolzano, regional and long-distance trains reach Verona Porta Nuova in about 1 h 30–2 h. In total, expect 3–4 hours depending on where you start.
How long is the drive from the Dolomites to Verona?
About 2 h 30–3 h from Val Gardena or Val di Fassa, a little more from Alta Badia or Cortina. Most of the distance is on the A22 Brenner motorway, which is fast but tolled. Mountain roads to the motorway are slow and can be snowy in winter, so allow extra time.
What is the cheapest way from the Dolomites to Verona?
The local bus plus a regional train is cheapest, at roughly €15–25. Local guest cards in some valleys include free bus travel within South Tyrol, which can make it cheaper still. Driving costs fuel plus A22 tolls and parking in Verona.
Do I need to book ahead?
Regional trains and valley buses do not need booking. High-speed or Eurocity trains on the Brenner line are cheaper when booked in advance. Seasonal coaches and private transfers to Verona airport should be reserved ahead, especially on Saturdays in ski season.
