How to get from Delphi to Kalavryta

Delphi and Kalavryta face each other across the Gulf of Corinth, and the only practical way between them is by car, about 3 h to 3 h 30. You cross the gulf either on the Rio–Antirrio Bridge or on the small car ferry from Agios Nikolaos to Aigio. Public transport would take most of a day with several changes.

Tips

Common questions

Is there a bus from Delphi to Kalavryta?

No direct bus. By public transport you would have to go via Athens or combine several regional KTEL buses with changes on both sides of the Gulf of Corinth, which takes most of a day. A car is the realistic option, taking about three hours via the Rio–Antirrio Bridge or the Agios Nikolaos–Aigio ferry.

Should I use the bridge or the ferry?

The Rio–Antirrio Bridge runs continuously and is predictable, with a toll of about €14 for a car. The Agios Nikolaos–Aigio car ferry saves driving distance but depends on its timetable and the weather. Total times are similar, about three hours, so choose the ferry if a departure suits you.

Can I combine the trip with the Odontotos railway?

Yes. Drive to Diakopto on the coast, park, and take the Odontotos rack railway up the Vouraikos gorge to Kalavryta, about an hour. Return the same way to collect the car. Trains are few, so check the timetable and book ahead in summer and on winter weekends.

Is the road to Kalavryta open in winter?

Usually, but snow is common from December to March because Kalavryta sits below a ski area. Check road conditions before you leave, carry snow chains, and allow extra time. Mountain roads may close briefly in heavy snow. The Odontotos railway is an alternative when driving looks risky.
