How to get from Andros to Syros

There are few direct boats between Andros and Syros; most trips go from Gavrio (Andros) to Tinos and then on to Syros, taking about 2 h 30 to 4 h in total depending on the connection. Neither island links to the other by air, so the ferry is the only option.

Tips

Common questions

Is there a direct ferry from Andros to Syros?

Only occasionally. The main ferry line from Andros runs Rafina–Andros–Tinos–Mykonos, while Syros is on the Piraeus lines, so most trips need a change at Tinos. On some days a boat may call at both islands, but this varies by season and year. Search ferry booking sites for the exact date to see what is running.

How long does it take to get from Andros to Syros?

About 2 h 30 to 4 h door to port, including the change at Tinos. Gavrio to Tinos takes about 1 h 30 to 2 h, and Tinos to Syros about 30 min to 1 h. The total depends mostly on how long you wait at Tinos for the onward boat. Check current timetables before booking both legs.

Can I fly between Andros and Syros?

No. Andros has no airport. Syros has a small airport with flights to Athens, but there is no flight between the two islands, and going through Athens would take far longer than the ferry. The ferry, with a change at Tinos, is the only practical way.

Should I book both ferry legs together?

Book each leg with care: they may be different ferry companies, and if the first boat is late the second will not wait. Leave a comfortable gap at Tinos, and in July and August book ahead, particularly with a car. Outside summer, foot passengers can usually buy tickets on the day at the port agencies.
