Tips
- Check whether your boat leaves from Katapola or Aegiali — they are on opposite ends of Amorgos.
- The Small Cyclades route is slow but a good chance to see Koufonisia on the way.
- Book ahead in August, especially for fast boats.
- Strong north winds can delay or cancel smaller boats; keep a buffer before flights from Naxos.
Common questions
Is there a direct ferry from Amorgos to Naxos?
Yes. In summer there are direct ferries most days, taking about 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours on faster boats. Slower local services, such as Express Skopelitis, go via the Small Cyclades and take 3–4 hours. Winter services are fewer, so check current timetables, especially for Aegiali departures.
Can I do Amorgos to Naxos as a day trip?
It is possible in high summer if a morning boat out and an evening boat back line up, giving you a few hours in Naxos town. Outside July and August the timings rarely work. Most visitors combine the two islands in one itinerary, staying a few nights on each rather than going there and back in a day.
Which port on Amorgos should I use?
Amorgos has two ports: Katapola in the southwest and Aegiali in the north. Many ferries call at both, but not all. Check your ticket carefully and allow time for the road between them, about 30–40 minutes by car or local bus, if you are staying at the other end of the island.
What is the cheapest way?
The conventional ferries and the Express Skopelitis local boat are usually the cheapest options, typically around €20–25 per person. Fast catamarans cost more but save time. Prices change by season and company, so compare on a ferry booking site or at a port agency before buying.
