Why visit Sayulita?

Sayulita is a small beach town on the Pacific coast of Mexico, in the state of Nayarit, north of Puerto Vallarta. It is part of the stretch of coast known as the Riviera Nayarit and is one of Mexico's Pueblos Mágicos. The town is known for its surf, its colorful streets and its relaxed atmosphere.

The main beach has gentle waves that make it a popular place to learn to surf, with board rentals and lessons along the sand. A short walk through the jungle leads to Playa de los Muertos, a smaller cove next to the town cemetery. The nearby village of San Pancho (San Francisco) offers a quieter beach and a similar laid-back feel. From Punta de Mita, boat tours visit the Marietas Islands, a protected area known for the Hidden Beach and seabirds such as blue-footed boobies. Humpback whales pass along this coast in winter, and whale-watching trips run in season. Taco stands and fish restaurants line the streets around the main square. Local shops sell Huichol beadwork made by the Wixárika people of the region.
