Why visit Koh Lanta?

Koh Lanta is a long, laid-back island in Krabi province on Thailand's Andaman coast, reached by ferry or by road with two short car-ferry crossings. Its west coast is lined with long sandy beaches facing the sunset, while the east coast keeps the old fishing life of the island alive.

Long Beach (Phra Ae), Klong Dao and Klong Nin are easy beaches for families and couples, and Kantiang Bay in the south is quieter and more scenic. Mu Ko Lanta National Park at the southern tip has a lighthouse, forest trails and a rocky headland. Lanta Old Town on the east coast has wooden stilt houses and seafood restaurants over the water, with a mix of Thai Muslim, Chinese and Chao Le (sea gypsy) heritage. Boat trips go to the Four Islands, including the Emerald Cave on Koh Mook, and divers head to Koh Haa and Hin Daeng. The best weather is from November to April; in the rainy season some resorts close. Eat fresh seafood, massaman curry and roti.
