Why visit Kauai?

Kauai is the northernmost of the main Hawaiian Islands and the oldest of them geologically. Known as the Garden Isle, it is covered in tropical greenery, with steep cliffs, deep canyons and long beaches. Building heights are limited and much of the island has no road access, which helps it keep a quiet, rural feel.

See the Na Pali Coast, a line of sheer green cliffs that can be explored by boat, by helicopter or on the demanding Kalalau Trail. Waimea Canyon, often called the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, has lookouts along the road up to Kokee State Park. On the north shore, Hanalei Bay offers a wide crescent beach backed by mountains and taro fields. Kayak up the Wailua River, and visit the Kilauea Point lighthouse and its seabird refuge. On the sunny south shore, Poipu has calm beaches where Hawaiian monk seals and green sea turtles sometimes rest, and Spouting Horn blows sea water through a lava tube. Try poke, plate lunches and shave ice between beach stops.
