Why visit Atlanta?

Atlanta is the capital and largest city of Georgia, in the southeastern United States. It played a central role in the civil rights movement and is the birthplace of Martin Luther King Jr. It is also a green city with large parks and tree-lined neighborhoods, and it hosted the 1996 Summer Olympics.

Visit the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park, which includes his birth home and the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church where he preached. Downtown, Centennial Olympic Park is surrounded by the Georgia Aquarium, the World of Coca-Cola and the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. Walk or cycle part of the Atlanta BeltLine, a trail built on a former railway corridor, and stop at Ponce City Market, set in a huge historic brick building. Relax in Piedmont Park and the neighboring Atlanta Botanical Garden, or catch a show at the ornate Fox Theatre. Stone Mountain Park, east of the city, offers hiking to the top of a large granite dome. Southern cooking is everywhere, from fried chicken and biscuits to peach cobbler.
