Why visit Aspen?

Aspen is a mountain town in the Roaring Fork Valley of western Colorado, set among the Elk Mountains of the Rocky Mountains. It began as a silver mining town in the late nineteenth century and later grew into one of the best-known ski resorts in North America. Today it combines Victorian-era streets with upscale shops, galleries and a busy cultural calendar.

In winter, choose between four ski areas: Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk and Snowmass, all linked by free shuttle buses. In summer, the Maroon Bells, twin peaks reflected in Maroon Lake, are among the most photographed mountains in Colorado. Drive over Independence Pass on the Continental Divide for alpine views, and hike or bike the many trails around the valley. Downtown, see the historic Wheeler Opera House and Hotel Jerome, and visit the Aspen Art Museum. The Aspen Music Festival and School brings classical concerts to town every summer. Dining ranges from casual apres-ski spots to some of the most expensive restaurants in the Rockies.
