Why visit Coron?

Coron is a town on Busuanga Island in the Calamian Islands of northern Palawan, in the Philippines, and the name is also used for the nearby limestone island of Coron. It is known for crystal-clear lakes surrounded by karst cliffs and for some of the best wreck diving in the world.

Island-hopping tours visit Kayangan Lake, often called the cleanest lake in Asia, with its viewpoint over a lagoon, and Barracuda Lake, where divers feel warm and cool layers of water. Twin Lagoon, Siete Pecados marine park and the white beaches of Banol, Atwayan and Malcapuya are other stops. In September 1944, American aircraft sank a fleet of Japanese supply ships in Coron Bay, and the wrecks, such as the Okikawa Maru and Akitsushima, are now artificial reefs. Climb the 700 steps of Mount Tapyas for sunset over the town and soak in the Maquinit hot springs, which flow into the sea. Coron is reached by air to Busuanga or by ferry from El Nido and Manila.
