Is Victoria Falls expensive? What things really cost in 2026
Short answer
Yes, Victoria Falls is expensive for southern Africa, because prices are set in US dollars for international visitors and most of the costs are park fees and activities. A realistic budget day is about US$115 per person, mid-range about US$325, and the money goes mostly on entry fees, rafting, Chobe safaris, helicopter flights and lodges.

Where the money goes
Activities are the biggest cost: rafting (roughly US$120–180), Devil's Pool (US$110–180), a Chobe day safari (US$180–260) and a helicopter flight (US$180–220) quickly add up, on top of park entry on each side of the falls. Accommodation ranges from US$40–90 in backpackers to US$450–1,500 at riverside lodges on the Zambezi. Restaurant food is close to international prices because much of it is imported, though local eateries are cheap. Visas are an extra: the KAZA UNIVISA costs about US$50 for many nationalities when available, and park fees and some local taxes are charged separately.
When it is cheaper
The rainy season (roughly November to March) usually brings lower lodge rates, while June to August is the busiest and priciest period; exact savings vary a lot between lodges, so compare before booking.
How to spend less
- Choose one big activity (rafting, Chobe or a helicopter flight) rather than several.
- Walk to the Zimbabwe-side park gate and the bridge from town by day instead of booking transfers.
- Eat at local eateries in town for sadza and stew at about US$3–8.
- Carry small, clean US dollar notes; card payments often carry a surcharge.
- Check whether the KAZA UNIVISA is available if you plan to visit both sides and Chobe.
- Check what set dinners and cruises include, especially drinks and transfers.
