Where the money goes
Accommodation is the largest cost by far: even budget rooms inland or near Turtle Cove cost about US$200-320 a night and Grace Bay hotels US$400-700, before the 12% tax and service charge. Food is expensive because most of it is imported, and restaurants add 10-15% service. Taxis are pricey, so a hire car often makes sense, and boat trips cost US$90 or more each.
When it is cheaper
From May to early December, outside the holidays, rates often fall noticeably, sometimes by 20-40%, with August to October cheapest because of the hurricane risk. Christmas to April is peak season.
How to spend less

- Use the public beach access points along Grace Bay; the beach itself is free.

- Go to the Thursday Island Fish Fry for cheaper local food and music.
- Rent a car rather than relying on taxis, which charge per person.
- Travel in May, June or November for lower rates with mostly good weather.
