Is Toledo expensive? What things really cost in 2026
Short answer
Toledo is moderately priced by Spanish standards: cheaper than Madrid for hotels, with inexpensive set lunches and monument tickets of a few euros each. A budget day is about €75 per person, mid-range about €140 and comfort about €280. The old-town lunch spots aimed at day-trippers are the main place to overpay.

Where the money goes
Accommodation is the main cost: about €30 per person sharing near Zocodover, €60 in a small hotel inside the walls and €120 at the Parador or a cigarral across the Tagus. Food is about €25 a day with a menú del día and tapas, or €45 with two sit-down meals and wine. Sights are cheap, about €15–25 a day, as the Cathedral is the only big ticket and the Pulsera Turística covers several smaller monuments. Transport inside the old town is almost free on foot; the Madrid train and a car for Consuegra (about €40–70 a day) are extra.
When it is cheaper
July and August, when highs reach about 35°C, and the winter months outside Christmas usually have the lowest hotel prices. Weekends are busier and pricier than weekdays all year, as many visitors come from Madrid.
How to spend less
- Eat the weekday menú del día at lunch, about €14–20, often with wine or water.
- Buy the Pulsera Turística if you will see several of the smaller monuments it covers; check the current list.
- Use the free escalators from Paseo de Recaredo instead of taxis up to the old town.
- Take the bus from Madrid's Plaza Elíptica if price matters more than speed; it is cheaper than the Avant train.
- Buy marzipan by weight from bakeries and confectioners that make it, not in decorative tins in souvenir shops.
- Eat outside the walls on Avenida de la Reconquista or around Santa Teresa, where prices are lower.
