Is Sifnos expensive? What things really cost in 2026
Short answer
Sifnos is mid-priced to slightly above average for the Cyclades: cheaper than Santorini or Mykonos, but taverna and room prices are a little higher than on Naxos or Paros. A budget traveller needs about €80 a day, mid-range about €165 and comfort about €340 per person. Rooms take most of the money, followed by food; most sights are cheap or free.

Where the money goes
Accommodation is the main cost, from €60–100 in Kamares to €220–450 in Vathy or boutique hotels around Kastro, plus Greece's per-room, per-night climate resilience fee. The ferry from Piraeus costs about €45–75 each way. Sifnos is known for its food, and eating out every night adds up, especially fish at €50–80 a kilo. Buses are cheap, and museums cost only a few euros.
When it is cheaper
May, early June and late September are cheaper than late July and August, often by a quarter or more for rooms. From November to March most hotels and tavernas close.
How to spend less
- Stay in Kamares, the port, for the cheapest rooms, or Apollonia, the bus hub, to avoid taxis.
- Use the island buses (about €2) instead of renting for the whole stay.
- Walk the marked footpaths between villages, with a free trail map from the port or Apollonia.
- Ask the fish price per kilo before choosing.
- Order revithada or mastelo, local clay-pot dishes that are filling and fairly priced.
- Take a conventional ferry, slower but cheaper than fast boats.
