Is Qatar expensive? What things really cost in 2026
Short answer
Qatar is expensive for hotels and alcohol but more affordable than many expect for transport and casual food. A budget day is about QAR 315 (roughly €80) per person and a mid-range day about QAR 790; desert tours and luxury hotels are where costs climb.

Where the money goes
Hotels take most of the budget: even cheaper hotels in Al Sadd or Bin Mahmoud cost about QAR 300–500 a night, Souq Waqif, Msheireb and West Bay hotels QAR 500–900, and The Pearl or Lusail resorts QAR 1,200–3,500, with service charges and taxes added. Alcohol is available only in licensed hotel bars and restaurants and is very expensive. Museums are moderately priced, and desert safaris are the main excursion cost. The metro is cheap; taxis and Uber are reasonable for the distances.
When it is cheaper
From May to September, when it is very hot, hotel rates in Doha often fall sharply, sometimes by 30–50%; November to March is peak season with the highest prices.
How to spend less
- Use the Doha Metro, which is cheap, air-conditioned and links the airport, Souq Waqif, Msheireb, West Bay and Katara area.
- Eat in South Asian and Arab cafés and the cheaper Souq Waqif eateries rather than hotel restaurants.
- Skip expensive hotel bars: alcohol is costly and only available in licensed venues.
- Visit free sights such as the Msheireb Museums, MIA Park, Katara and the Corniche.
- Join a shared group desert safari rather than a private one.
- Book hotels for summer if heat does not deter you; rates are much lower.
