Qatar on a budget: how to do it well

Short answer

Qatar is not a cheap destination, but about QAR 315 per person per day (bed QAR 180, food QAR 70, sights QAR 50, transport QAR 15) is realistic with a shared budget hotel, the metro and souq food. Desert tours and luxury hotels double it quickly.

Where to sleep for less

Budget travellers stay in Al Sadd and Bin Mahmoud, which have cheaper hotels on the metro at about QAR 300–500 a double (so roughly QAR 150–250 each when sharing). There are very few hostels.

Getting around cheaply

The Doha Metro is the cheapest way to get around and reaches Hamad International Airport on the Red Line in about 20 minutes; buy a travel card at the station. Use Karwa or Uber for places off the metro.
