Is Mallorca expensive? What things really cost in 2026
Short answer
Mallorca has become one of Spain's pricier destinations in high season: a budget day is about €105 per person and a mid-range day about €210, more than mainland Spain and similar to the Côte d'Azur's cheaper towns. Hotels in July–August, car hire and beach-club extras drive the cost; supermarket food and local bars remain reasonable.

Where the money goes
Accommodation is by far the biggest cost: even simpler hotels in Palma's Santa Catalina or the old-town edges cost about €100–160 a double in summer, boutique hotels €180–300 and Tramuntana fincas €400–1,200, plus the Balearic ecotasa of about €1–6 per person per night. A rental car is the second big expense for the mountains and coves, with parking near popular beaches extra. Attractions like the Sóller train and the caves add €20–25 each. Food varies widely: menús del día and bakeries are good value, beach restaurants and Port de Sóller seafront terraces much less so.
When it is cheaper
From November to March prices drop sharply, often by 30–50% for hotels and car hire, though many coastal hotels close. April, May and October are a good middle ground.
How to spend less
- Visit in May, June, late September or October for warm weather and lower hotel and car prices.
- Order the menú del día at lunch, usually much cheaper than dinner.
- Use TIB buses for Palma, Sóller, Valldemossa and the main towns instead of a car on city days.
- Take the Sóller train in one direction only and the bus back to save on the return fare.
- Book a small rental car well ahead for summer, and avoid paying for parking at the busiest coves by arriving early.
- Shop at markets and supermarkets for beach picnics instead of eating at beach bars.
