Is Evora expensive? What things really cost in 2026
Short answer

Where the money goes
Rooms take the biggest share: simple guesthouses inside the walls start at about €55–90 a night for a double, central hotels near Praça do Giraldo are about €85–150, and converted convents or wine-estate hotels €160–350. Food is good value — lunch menus cost €12–16 and dinner with wine €20–35 per person — but remember that bread, olives and cheese placed on the table are charged if you eat them. Sights in town cost a few euros each, while the megaliths, Monsaraz and the wine estates need a hire car or a tour.
When it is cheaper
Rooms are usually cheaper from November to March and in the July–August heat, when fewer people visit. Spring and autumn weekends are busier and pricier.
How to spend less
- Order the lunch menu (prato do dia or menu do dia); it is the best-value meal.
- Send back the bread, olives and cheese if you do not want them; they are not free.
- Visit the Roman Temple and Praça do Giraldo for free at any hour.
- Take the train from Lisbon rather than a day tour, and join a local half-day megalith tour if you have no car.
- Book wine tastings ahead and compare prices; some estates charge little more than a glass in town.
- Stay overnight rather than day-tripping; guesthouses inside the walls are reasonably priced.
