Where the money goes
Rooms are the biggest cost: doubles at the edge of Corfu Town or in Gouvia start around €60–100 in summer, the Old Town is €120–200 and north-east villas €250–600. A rental car (about €35–50 a day in summer) is almost essential to explore beyond the town, and day cruises to Paxos (€40–60) or a licence-free motorboat (€80–120) are popular extras. Taverna meals are fair value, though cafés on the Liston charge a premium for the setting. Greece also adds a per-room climate resilience fee each night.
When it is cheaper
May, early June and late September to October are noticeably cheaper than July and August, often by a quarter to a third for rooms and car hire; the climate fee is also lower outside April–October. In winter much of the coast closes, though Corfu Town stays open.
How to spend less
- Stay at the edge of Corfu Town or in Gouvia and use the blue city buses rather than a car for the first days.
- Book car hire early for July and August, when prices rise and cars run out.
- Eat in the Old Town lanes away from the main shopping streets and the Liston, where prices drop.
- Swim at free public beaches rather than renting sunbeds, which often cost €10–20 a set in summer.
- Visit Paxos by the regular ferry rather than a cruise if you want time on the island at a lower price.
- Ask for the house wine by the carafe (hima), much cheaper than bottled wine.
