Is Casablanca expensive? What things really cost in 2026

Short answer

Casablanca is Morocco's most expensive city, as the country's business capital, but still cheap by European standards, with a mid-range day at about MAD 1,100 per person. Business-class hotels and Western-style restaurants in Gauthier, Maarif and Ain Diab cost the most; trams, petit taxis and local food are cheap.

Where the money goes

Hotels take the largest share: mid-range doubles in Gauthier, Maarif or by the port cost about MAD 800–1,400, and the city tourist tax of roughly MAD 15–50 per person per night is added on top. Eating in modern restaurants, beach clubs on the Ain Diab corniche and hotel bars is priced close to Europe, and alcohol is expensive where served. Sights are few and modest in price, the Hassan II Mosque tour being the main ticket, and getting around by tram and metered petit taxi is very cheap.

When it is cheaper

Prices are fairly stable year-round because Casablanca is a business city. Hotels can be cheaper at weekends, in August (when businesses slow down) and during Ramadan; they rise during big conferences and trade fairs.
