Is Bratislava expensive? What things really cost in 2026
Short answer
Bratislava is moderately priced: cheaper than nearby Vienna, roughly comparable to Budapest or Prague in the centre. A budget day is about €61 per person and a mid-range day about €121; the Old Town's tourist restaurants are where prices climb.

Where the money goes
Accommodation is the main cost: hotels and hostels around the main station and Nivy are cheapest at about €50–80 a double, the Old Town and the Eurovea riverfront €90–160, and historic palace hotels €160–300, plus a city accommodation tax of a few euros per person per night. Food and drink are good value outside the main squares, and Slovak beer is cheap. Sights are inexpensive individually, and the compact centre means transport costs are tiny.
When it is cheaper
January to March and November (outside the Christmas market period) usually bring lower hotel prices; weekday stays are often cheaper than weekends, when visitors arrive from Vienna and stag groups fill the Old Town.
How to spend less
- Walk: Michael's Gate to the castle is about 10 minutes, so you rarely need transport.
- Eat the daily lunch menu (denné menu) at local restaurants, which includes soup and a main for much less than dinner.
- Drink at beer halls and pubs a few streets away from Hlavné námestie.
- Take bus 61 from the airport rather than a taxi.
- Visit the free castle grounds and terraces even if you skip the museum.
- If you fly into Vienna, compare hotel prices in Bratislava; they are often much lower for the same standard.
