Is Annecy expensive? What things really cost in 2026
Short answer

Where the money goes
Accommodation dominates, especially in July and August, when demand from French and Swiss visitors is high. Food is next: Savoy cheese dishes are filling but rarely cheap in the old town. Sights are inexpensive, but optional extras add up quickly, such as a paraglider tandem flight (about €100–150) or the Aiguille du Midi cable car from Chamonix (about €80). The town adds a taxe de séjour of roughly €1–4 per person per night.
When it is cheaper
Prices drop outside July and August, especially in spring and from October to early December, but summer weekends and the August lake festival are the most expensive dates.
How to spend less
- Stay near the train station and walk 10 minutes to the old town.
- Rent a bike and use the flat west-shore cycle path instead of a car.
- Picnic on the Pâquier lawn with cheese and bread from the market.
- Swim at the free lawn beaches rather than paying beach entry where it applies.
- Have your Savoy meal at lunch, when set menus are cheaper.
- Leave the car at a park-and-ride; central parking is €2–3 an hour.
