Getting around cheaply
A shared rental car (from about NZ$60-100 a day) is usually the best value; InterCity buses are cheaper for solo travellers. From Auckland Airport, the SkyDrive bus costs about NZ$20. Book domestic flights early for low fares between the islands.

- Plan fuel stops in towns, as remote stations charge more.
