- Walking the trail from Prionia through the forest (you pay only for the taxi)

Where to sleep for less
Budget travellers stay in simple guesthouses in town, where doubles cost about €45–70, close to the bus stop and the gorge trail. A dormitory bed in the Spilios Agapis refuge costs roughly €15–25 per person, but must be booked ahead in summer.
Getting around cheaply
Arrive by train to Litochoro station (then a taxi of about €10–15 up to town) or by KTEL bus from Thessaloniki, which stops in town. Walk to the gorge trail. For Prionia, share a taxi with other hikers, since there is no regular bus.
A sample budget day

More ways to save
- Hike the gorge on your own on day one and save the paid taxi for the summit day.
- Ask at the EOS Litochorou office for trail news; it costs nothing and can save a wasted trip.
- Buy mountain tea and honey from local shops in town, not at the trailhead.
- Carry your own water bottle and refill it before you leave town.
- Visit outside July and August for easier refuge bookings and lower room prices.
- If you go to Dion, combine it with Platamonas on the same day to share car or taxi costs.
