Free things to do
- Walk the Baku Boulevard along the Caspian
- Explore the lanes of Icherisheher, Baku's walled Old City (the Maiden Tower and Shirvanshahs' Palace have fees)
- See the Heydar Aliyev Center from outside and the Flame Towers lit at night
- Walk up to Highland Park (Dagustu) for the view over the bay
- Wander Sheki's old town and the outside of the Caravanserai
- Browse Quba's market and the Red Village (Qırmızı Qəsəbə) across the river
Cheap eats
- Qutab (thin stuffed flatbreads): a few manat each
- Plov with lamb at a local restaurant: about ₼8–15
- Lamb kebab with bread and herbs: about ₼8–15
- Piti (Sheki lamb and chickpea stew): about ₼8–12
- Tea with jam and sweets in a chaykhana: about ₼3–8
Where to sleep for less
Hostels inside Baku's Old City and family guesthouses in Sheki and Quba cost about ₼40–80 for a double; dorm beds in Baku are cheaper. Guesthouses often include breakfast.
Getting around cheaply
In Baku, the metro and buses with a BakuKart cost under ₼1 a ride, and the airport express bus about ₼1.50. Between towns, shared minibuses cost under ₼15. Hire a driver only for Lahij and Khinalug, and share the cost if you can.

- Visit in shoulder season, when Baku hotels are cheaper.
- Ask your guesthouse to arrange shared rides with other guests.
- Drink tea in chaykhanas rather than coffee in Western-style cafés, which charge Baku prices.
