Tips

Common questions

How much is an Uber from Cape Town airport?

Usually about R250–350 to the city centre or V&A Waterfront, more during surges. It takes about 20–30 minutes. Uber and Bolt are widely used and generally cheaper than metered taxis, which cost about R350–500.

Is there a bus from the airport?

Yes, the MyCiTi A01 bus runs from the airport to the Civic Centre station in the city centre, roughly from early morning to evening. You need a myconnect card, sold at the airport kiosk. From the Civic Centre you may still need a ride to your hotel.

Is it safe at night?

The airport itself is fine, but avoid walking with luggage after dark. Use Uber, Bolt, an official taxi or a pre-booked transfer straight to your accommodation. The MyCiTi airport bus stops in the evening.

How long does it take to reach the city centre?

About 20–30 minutes by car, longer at rush hour (around 07:00–09:00 and 16:00–18:00). The MyCiTi bus takes about 30–40 minutes. Camps Bay and the Atlantic Seaboard take about 30–45 minutes.
