Short answer
The best times are March to May and September to November, with highs of about 15–28°C and little rain. Summer reaches 30–31°C in Amman and hotter in Petra, Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea; winter is cold and wet, with highs of 11–14°C and occasional snow in Amman and Petra.

Season by season
Spring (Mar–May)
Highs rise from 15°C in March to 26°C in May, with green hills and wildflowers. The best time for Petra hiking.
Summer (Jun–Aug)
Dry and hot: highs of 28–31°C in Amman (much hotter at the Dead Sea and Aqaba), lows of 18–21°C and no rain.
Autumn (Sep–Nov)
September (28°C) and October (24°C) are excellent; November cools to 19°C with the first rain.
Winter (Dec–Feb)
Cold: highs of 11–14°C and lows of 4–7°C, with 5–9 rainy days a month and occasional snow. Aqaba and the Dead Sea stay mild.

- Ramadan (dates move about 11 days earlier each year): sights stay open, restaurants have reduced daytime hours

When to avoid
Avoid June to August if you plan long hikes at Petra or Wadi Rum, as heat is intense. December to February can bring cold, rain and snow in Amman and Petra.
