Best time to visit Dolomites: month by month
Short answer
Mid-June to late September is the hiking season, with valley highs of about 16–18°C at altitude and lifts running; July and August are busiest and stormiest, and September is often clearest. Winter (December to April) is ski season, with highs around -3 to 2°C.

Season by season
Spring (Mar–May)
Still snowy at altitude: highs of 2–9°C and lows of -9 to 0°C. Skiing ends in April; many lifts and hotels close in May.
Summer (Jun–Aug)
Highs of 16–18°C and lows of 5–7°C at altitude, with 18–21 days of showers or storms a month, mostly in the afternoon. Peak hiking.
Autumn (Sep–Nov)
September (about 14°C, 10 rainy days) is clear and calmer; lifts close in late September or October. November is quiet with early snow.
Winter (Dec–Feb)
Cold, with highs of about -3 to 1°C and lows near -10 to -12°C. The Dolomiti Superski area opens in early December.

When to avoid
Avoid May and late October to November, when many lifts, huts and hotels are closed. Mid-August (around the Ferragosto holiday) is the most crowded and expensive time.
