Common questions

Is Granada or Malaga cheaper?

Granada is cheaper on our numbers: about €161 per person per day at mid-range against about €172 for Malaga. The free-tapa tradition in many Granada bars makes eating out especially good value. Malaga prices rise on the beachfront and in summer, when the Costa del Sol fills, while Granada stays steadier outside Alhambra peak dates.

Can you do Granada as a day trip from Malaga?

Yes, it is possible: about 1 h 30 each way by bus or car, or a little less by train via Antequera. But a day trip only works if you have an Alhambra ticket with an entry time that fits. Granada is much better with at least one night, so you see the Albaicín at sunset and enjoy an evening of tapas.

Which is better in winter?

Malaga. Its winters are mild, with January days around 17°C and plenty of sun, which is why many winter-sun travellers base themselves there. Granada sits higher and inland, so winter nights are cold, though days are often bright and the snow on the Sierra Nevada makes the Alhambra views spectacular. Skiing is possible in winter.

When is the best time to visit Granada and Malaga?

For both together, April, May, September and October are ideal. Granada gets very hot in July and August, while Malaga is warm but cooled by the sea and works for beach holidays all summer. Malaga is also good from November to February for a mild city break; Granada then is crisp but beautiful.
