Common questions
Is Amsterdam or Paris cheaper?
They are very close. Our mid-range estimate is about €219 per person per day in Amsterdam and about €215 in Paris. Amsterdam hotels are among the priciest in Europe and the city tourist tax is high, while Paris eating out costs a bit more for similar quality. Book hotels well ahead in both cities.
How many days do I need in Amsterdam?
Two or three days cover the main sights: the canal ring, Jordaan, the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum and the Anne Frank House. Add a day for Haarlem, Zaanse Schans or Keukenhof in tulip season. Paris needs more, at least four days, because the city is larger and its sights are more spread out.
When is the best time to visit?
Late spring and summer are best for both. Amsterdam is mildest in June, around 22°C, and April brings tulips but also crowds. Paris peaks around 25°C in June and July. Winters are similar, around 7°C, with grey skies and rain in both cities, though fewer visitors.
How do I get between Amsterdam and Paris?
Take the direct high-speed train, about 3 h 20 from Amsterdam Centraal to Paris Gare du Nord, with several departures a day. It is faster door to door than flying once airport time is added. Book early, as fares rise close to the travel date, and check current timetables.
