Flight time and jet lag planner

Choose where you fly from and to, and the date. You get the great-circle distance, an estimate of flying time, the time difference on that date (daylight saving included) and a simple plan to adjust faster.

How it works

Flying time

Estimated from the great-circle distance at an average cruising speed of about 830 km/h, plus time for taxiing and climbing. Real timetables differ with winds, routing and stopovers; very long trips usually need one stop.

Time difference

Calculated in your browser from the official time zones of both places for the date you pick, so summer and winter time are handled correctly.

The jet lag plan

Based on common sleep-medicine advice: shift your sleep a little before you go, set your clock to destination time on the plane, and use daylight at the right time of day when you arrive. Flying east is usually harder than flying west.

Common questions

How long does jet lag last?

A rough rule is one day per time zone when flying east and about one day per one and a half time zones flying west. Most people feel better sooner if they get daylight at the right times.

Is it worse flying east or west?

East, for most people. Flying east shortens your day, and it is harder to fall asleep earlier than to stay up later.

Should I sleep on the plane?

Sleep if it is night-time at your destination; stay awake if it is daytime there. Set your watch to destination time when you board.

How accurate is the flight time?

It is an estimate for a non-stop flight. Check real schedules — the flight comparison link under the result shows actual flights and stops.

Does it handle daylight saving time?

Yes. The time difference is calculated for the exact date you choose, using each place's official time zone.

Can I embed the planner?

Yes. Copy the embed code at the bottom of the page and keep the credit link.
