Where to stay in Pamukkale
Pamukkale is a compact tourist hub split between the flat valley floor of Pamukkale town and the quiet, agricultural village of Karahayıt slightly to the north. Most visitors stay down on the flats within walking distance of the thermal springs and the South Gate, where hotels are designed around geothermally fed swimming pools.

Pamukkale Town Centre
This is a low-rise, slightly scruffy grid of streets where every second building is a family-run pension or small hotel. It feels sleepy during the day when tour buses clog the site, coming alive at dusk. From here, you can easily walk to the travertine entrance on Atatürk Caddesi and the village mosque in under fifteen minutes.
Karahayıt
Located about five kilometres north, Karahayıt feels distinctively rural with its iron-heavy, reddish-orange thermal springs. It is much quieter than the town centre, centered around a small square with local tea houses. While you cannot walk to the Pamukkale terraces from here, local dolmus minibuses run constantly down the main road.
Akköy
Akköy is a traditional agricultural village situated back from the main tourist strip, surrounded by cotton fields and pomegranate orchards. It offers an unfiltered glimpse into rural Denizli province with zero souvenir shops. You can walk to local tea gardens and village bakeries, but you will need transport to reach the Pamukkale ruins.

Think twice about booking hotels directly on the main highway bypass east of the town centre; truck traffic runs 24 hours a day and the noise makes sleeping with open windows impossible, despite the lower room rates.
Once you have a bed
The things that sell out first in Pamukkale are the small-group tours and the skip-the-line tickets.

Common questions
Do I need to stay in Pamukkale town overnight?
Most people only visit on a day trip from Izmir or Selçuk, but staying overnight lets you experience the travertines at sunrise before the tour buses arrive and enjoy the thermal pools at your hotel.
How do I get between Pamukkale town and Karahayıt?
Frequent dolmuş minibuses run between Pamukkale town and Karahayıt throughout the day. They are cheap, accept cash, and take about ten minutes, stopping right along the main village strips.
Are there good dining options in the area?
Dining is mostly straightforward Turkish fare like pide, kebabs, and meze along Atatürk Caddesi. Do not expect fine dining; most spots cater to transient bus tour crowds with hearty, reliable grilled meats.
