Common questions
How do I get from Turin to Zermatt by train?
Take a train from Turin to Milano Centrale, about 1 hour, then a EuroCity to Brig, about 2 hours, then the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn to Zermatt, about 1 h 20. Allow about 5 hours in total. Check current timetables for connections.
Can I drive from Turin to Zermatt?
You can drive to Täsch, about 3 h 30–4 hours, via Aosta and the Great St Bernard tunnel or via the Simplon Pass. Zermatt is car-free, so park in Täsch and take the shuttle train, about 12 minutes. You need a Swiss vignette and will pay Italian tolls.
Can I cross from Cervinia to Zermatt by cable car?
Yes, in season. The Matterhorn Alpine Crossing links Breuil-Cervinia in Italy with Zermatt via the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, taking about 1 h 30–2 hours. It is weather-dependent and closes at times, so check opening dates. Breuil-Cervinia is about 2 hours by car from Turin.
Do I need to book trains from Turin to Zermatt ahead?
It helps for the Italian legs, where advance Frecciarossa and EuroCity fares are cheaper than buying on the day. Swiss trains do not require seat reservations, and Supersaver fares on the SBB app can lower the price of the Brig–Zermatt section. In the ski season and in July and August, trains to Zermatt are busy, so allow some flexibility.
