Tips

Common questions

How long is the ferry from Skiathos to Skopelos?

About thirty minutes to Glossa (Loutraki) in the north-west of Skopelos, and about an hour to Skopelos town. Several boats run daily in summer. Check current timetables, as they vary by season and day of the week. Conventional ferries are a little slower but less likely to be cancelled when the wind is strong.

Can I visit Skopelos as a day trip from Skiathos?

Yes. Frequent ferries and organised boat excursions make a day trip easy in summer. Excursions often include swimming stops and the chapel of Agios Ioannis, known from the film Mamma Mia. Check the last return boat if you travel independently.

Can I take a car from Skiathos to Skopelos?

Yes, conventional ferries carry cars. In July and August, book vehicle space ahead. High-speed boats generally do not carry cars. Check whether your rental contract allows ferry travel. A car is handy for Skopelos's beaches and monasteries, but the island also has a summer bus along the main road and scooter rental in Skopelos town, so many visitors leave the car behind.

Which Skopelos port should I use?

Glossa (Loutraki) is closest to Skiathos and the north-west villages. Skopelos town is the main town on the east, about forty-five minutes by road from Glossa. Choose based on your accommodation; many boats call at both. If you are unsure, Skopelos town has the most hotels, restaurants and taxis.
