How to get from Seattle to Whistler
Driving from Seattle to Whistler takes about 4 h 30 to 5 h for roughly 380 km via I-5 and the Sea-to-Sky Highway (BC-99), plus border waits. Without a car, take the Amtrak Cascades train or a bus to Vancouver and then a bus or shuttle to Whistler.
Best option: Car. A car is the most direct way and lets you stop on the Sea-to-Sky Highway.

Do I need a passport?
Yes. You cross the US–Canada border, so you need a passport or other accepted travel document, and visitors may need an eTA or visa for Canada. Check current requirements. Allow extra time for the border at weekends and holidays and check wait times online.
How long is the drive?
About 4 h 30 to 5 hours, plus border wait times. The Sea-to-Sky Highway from Vancouver to Whistler is scenic and takes about 1 h 30 to 2 hours. Leave early to avoid traffic around Seattle and Vancouver at rush hour.
Can I go by train?
Amtrak Cascades runs from Seattle to Vancouver in about 4 hours. From Vancouver, take a bus or shuttle to Whistler. There is no regular passenger train to Whistler. Check current schedules and book the Vancouver to Whistler bus in advance in ski season.
What about winter driving?
From 1 October into spring, winter tyres or chains are required on the Sea-to-Sky Highway. Check road conditions with DriveBC before you go. Rental cars from Seattle may not have winter tyres, so ask the rental company. The highway can close after heavy snow or accidents.
