Common questions
How do I get from Petra to Wadi Rum?
The easiest way is by taxi or private car, taking about 1 h 30–1 h 45. Many Wadi Rum camps arrange pickups from Petra. A local minibus runs from Wadi Musa on most mornings and is much cheaper, but times vary. Ask your hotel about the current schedule.
Can I drive into Wadi Rum?
Only to the Visitor Centre and Rum village. The protected desert area is accessible only with 4x4 vehicles driven by local guides. Park your car at the Visitor Centre or in the village, and your camp or a guide will take you in by jeep.
Can I do it as a day trip?
Yes, but most visitors stay at least one night in a desert camp to see the sunset and the stars. A day trip with a jeep tour of a few hours is possible, leaving Petra early in the morning.
Do I need a Jordan Pass?
It is not required but is often good value. The Jordan Pass covers entry to Petra and Wadi Rum and, for many nationalities, the tourist visa fee if you stay at least three nights. Buy it online before arriving.
