How to get from Naples to Positano
From about April to October, ferries from Naples' Molo Beverello reach Positano in about 1 h 15–2 h, the easiest way. All year you can take the Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento and a SITA bus along the Amalfi Coast road, about 2 h 30 in total.
Best option: Ferry. In season it avoids the coast road traffic and lands you right at Positano's main beach.

Common questions
Is there a train from Naples to Positano?
There is no railway to Positano itself. The Circumvesuviana train runs from Naples to Sorrento in about 70 minutes, and from Sorrento SITA SUD buses follow the coast road to Positano in about 40–50 minutes. It is the cheapest year-round option, but the bus can be full in summer, so be ready to wait for the next one.
Can I take a ferry from Naples to Positano?
Yes, from about April to October. Ferries leave from Molo Beverello near the city centre and take roughly 1¼ to 2 hours, sometimes with a stop in Sorrento or Capri. Services are reduced in spring and autumn and stop in winter, and rough seas can cancel sailings. Check current timetables before you travel.
What is the cheapest way?
Circumvesuviana train plus SITA bus, at about €5–10 in total. It takes around 2½ hours and involves a change in Sorrento. Ferries cost about €20–30 but are faster and more comfortable. Private transfers start at around €120 per car, which can be reasonable when split between four people.
Should I drive to Positano?
Most visitors are better off not driving. The coast road is narrow and congested in summer, parking in Positano is scarce and costly, and odd/even number-plate rules have been used in high season. If you have a rental car, consider leaving it in Sorrento or Naples and continuing by bus or ferry.
