Common questions

How long is the drive from Litochoro to Pelion?

About 2 h to Volos and the nearby villages such as Portaria and Makrinitsa, via the A1 motorway and Larissa. The far side of Pelion, around Tsagarada or Milopotamos, takes 1 h or more extra on winding roads. Tolls on the motorway are roughly €8–12.

Can I get from Litochoro to Pelion by public transport?

Yes, with changes. Take a train from Litochoro to Larissa, then a regional train to Volos, and a KTEL Magnesias bus up to your village. It takes about 3–4 h. Check current timetables for each leg, as connections are limited and Greek rail schedules change.

Is there a direct bus from Litochoro to Volos?

Not as a regular direct service as far as we know. Buses from Litochoro mainly go to Katerini and Thessaloniki. Most travellers use the train via Larissa or drive. Check with KTEL Pierias for any current connections, or ask at the bus station in Katerini.

Is Pelion a good day trip from Litochoro?

It can work by car if you start early and limit yourself to Volos and one or two villages near the top, such as Makrinitsa. Pelion is large and slow to explore, so most visitors stay at least one night. Public transport makes a day trip impractical.
