Common questions
Is there a direct train from Kraków to Wrocław?
Yes. PKP Intercity runs direct trains between Kraków Główny and Wrocław Główny, taking about 3 to 3½ hours. Departures are roughly every one to two hours through the day. Some slower trains take longer, so compare journey times when booking. Check current timetables for engineering works, which are common on Polish railways.
What is the cheapest way?
Coaches are usually cheapest, sometimes under PLN 40 when booked ahead, and take about the same time as the train. PKP Intercity promotional fares can also be inexpensive if bought early. Driving costs fuel plus the toll on the Kraków–Katowice section of the A4, so it suits groups more than solo travellers.
Can I do it as a day trip?
It is possible but long, with 3 to 3½ hours each way. Leave Kraków early and you would have five or six hours to see Wrocław's Market Square, Ostrów Tumski and the river islands. Staying one night lets you enjoy the evening atmosphere and avoid a late return.
Do I need to book ahead?
Intercity trains include seat reservations and can sell out on Friday afternoons, Sunday evenings and holidays, so booking a few days ahead is wise. On weekdays you can usually buy on the day. Coach prices rise closer to departure, so booking early saves money.
