How to get from Kalymnos to Patmos
Catamarans and ferries link Pothia (Kalymnos) with Skala (Patmos), often calling at Leros or Lipsi on the way, in about 1 h 30 to 3 h. The Dodekanisos Seaways catamarans are the most regular option in summer.
Best option: Ferry. Patmos has no airport, and the catamaran along the Dodecanese chain is direct and frequent in season.

- On Patmos, the Monastery of St John and the Cave of the Apocalypse are a short taxi or bus ride from Skala.
Common questions
Is there a direct ferry from Kalymnos to Patmos?
Yes. Dodekanisos Seaways catamarans and Blue Star Ferries connect Pothia with Skala on Patmos, usually stopping at Leros and sometimes Lipsi. The catamaran takes about 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours. Services are daily in summer and less frequent in winter, so check current timetables.
Can I do it as a day trip?
In summer it is possible if a morning catamaran out and an afternoon or evening one back fit your plans, leaving several hours to visit the monastery and Chora. Outside the high season the timetable may not allow it. Check both sailings before you go and consider staying one night.
How much does the ferry cost?
Expect roughly €20–40 per person one way, depending on the operator and type of boat. Catamarans tend to be a little more expensive than conventional ferries but faster. Children and island residents may get discounts. Tickets can be bought online or at agencies near the port in Pothia.
Do I need to book ahead?
Booking a day or two ahead is wise in July and August, as the catamarans have limited seats. Outside summer you can usually buy on the day. Keep in mind that wind can cancel catamarans, so if you have a connecting flight from Kos or Leros, leave a buffer.
