Tips

Common questions

How long is the ferry from Kalymnos to Leros?

About 45 minutes to 1 hour by catamaran or small boat, and up to about 1 h 30 on some conventional ferries depending on the route. Dodekanisos Seaways catamarans and Blue Star Ferries serve the route, and in summer small local boats also cross from Myrties.

Can I do Leros as a day trip from Kalymnos?

Yes, in summer. With morning and afternoon sailings you can spend most of the day on Leros, visit the castle at Platanos and the war museum, and return in the evening. Check the last boat back, as winter schedules are much thinner.

What is the cheapest way from Kalymnos to Leros?

Conventional ferries and small local boats are usually the cheapest, at about €10–15. Catamarans cost a little more but are faster. The short crossing means price differences are small; choose the one with the most convenient departure time and port for where you are staying.

Do I need to book ahead?

Usually not outside July and August, when you can often buy at the port. In peak season, buy a day ahead to be sure of a seat. If you travel with a car, use a conventional ferry, since catamarans and small boats carry passengers only.
