Is there a train from Kalamata to Nafplio?

No. There are no passenger trains on the Peloponnese network between Kalamata and Nafplio. The options are driving, taking buses with a change in Tripoli, or a taxi or transfer. Driving takes about 2 hours on the A7 motorway and the road via Argos.

How do I go by bus?

Take a KTEL Messinias bus from Kalamata to Tripoli (about 1 hour 15 minutes), then a KTEL Argolidas bus from Tripoli to Nafplio (about 1 hour 15 minutes). Connections are not always timed, so the trip can take 3–4 hours. Check current timetables with both KTEL companies before leaving.

How much are the tolls?

Tolls on the A7 Moreas motorway between Kalamata and Tripoli come to roughly €7–10 for a car, paid at toll booths that accept cash and cards. The road from Tripoli to Nafplio through Argos is toll-free but slower, with some villages and bends. Prices change from time to time, so treat the figure as approximate.

Can I do it as a day trip?

Possible, but long. With about 4 hours of driving in total you still get time for Nafplio’s old town, the harbour and Palamidi fortress. A night in Nafplio is more relaxed and lets you also visit Mycenae or the theatre at Epidaurus, each about 30–45 minutes away by car. By bus a day trip is not practical.
