How to get from Ithaca to Preveza
There is no direct ferry from Ithaca to Preveza. In summer the usual way is a ferry from Ithaca to Lefkada (to Vasiliki or Nydri depending on the year) and then about 45 min to 1 h 15 by road to Preveza through the Aktio tunnel. Year-round, ferries link Ithaca with the mainland at Astakos, about 1 h 30 to 2 h by road from Preveza.
Best option: Ferry. The summer ferry to Lefkada followed by a short drive is the quickest route.

Common questions
Is there a direct ferry?
No. Ferries from Ithaca go to Kefalonia, to Lefkada in summer, and to the mainland at Astakos. Preveza is on the mainland near Lefkada, so you take a ferry to Lefkada or Astakos and continue by road. Check current timetables before booking.
How long does it take?
About 3 to 4 hours in total, depending on the route and ferry times. The summer ferry to Lefkada is usually the quickest. The Astakos route is longer by road but runs all year. Allow extra time for the drive from the port to Preveza.
Can I take my car?
Yes, the ferries to Lefkada and Astakos carry cars. Book car space ahead in July and August, as the boats are small. Arrive at the port at least 30 minutes before departure with a car, and check that your rental contract allows ferry travel.
Is there a bus?
Buses on Lefkada and the mainland can connect to Preveza, but timetables rarely fit ferry times. A car or taxi is the practical option for the road leg. Taxis can be booked in advance from Vasiliki, Nydri or Astakos, and Aktion airport also has car hire desks.
