How to get from Ikaria to Leros

There is no regular year-round direct ferry between Ikaria and Leros. In summer the usual way is via Patmos: small boats link Ikaria (Agios Kirykos) with Fourni and Patmos, and from Patmos ferries and catamarans continue to Leros. Allow most of a day; in winter connections are much fewer.

Tips

Common questions

Is there a direct ferry?

Not on a regular basis. In summer the most common route is via Patmos, using small boats from Agios Kirykos via Fourni and then a ferry or catamaran to Leros. Schedules change each season, so check current timetables. Ask at port agencies.

How long does the trip take?

Plan about 3 to 5 hours including the change, depending on the boats. If connections do not line up, you may need to stay a night on Patmos. Small boats can be cancelled in strong winds, so keep a buffer day if you have a flight to catch.

Can I fly instead?

There are no direct flights between Ikaria and Leros. Both islands have flights to Athens, so you could fly via Athens, but it takes a full day and costs more. Flights use small aircraft and sell out in summer, so book early if you choose this option.

Is it possible in winter?

Yes, but with very few sailings. Small boat services are reduced and some stop. Check current timetables well ahead and expect to need extra days. Port agencies on Ikaria and Leros can confirm which boats are running in the coming weeks, and are often better informed than online search sites.
