Common questions
Is there a direct ferry from Halkidiki to Skopelos?
Not on a regular basis. Halkidiki has no scheduled ferry to the Sporades. In some past summers there have been boats from Thessaloniki to Skiathos and Skopelos, but they are not reliable year to year. The dependable route is via Volos, so check current timetables before planning anything else.
How long does the whole journey take?
Allow a full day. Driving from Halkidiki to Volos takes about 3–4 hours depending on where you start, and the ferry or hydrofoil from Volos to Skopelos takes about 2 hours 30 minutes to 4 hours. Add time for check-in at the port and any wait between arrival and departure.
Can I take my car to Skopelos?
Yes, on conventional ferries from Volos, which carry cars. Hydrofoils and fast catamarans without car decks do not. Book car space ahead in peak season. Having a car on Skopelos is useful for reaching beaches, though the island is small and buses and taxis also work.
What is the cheapest way?
The cheapest route is usually KTEL buses to Thessaloniki and then to Volos, followed by a conventional ferry as a foot passenger. It takes longer than driving but costs roughly €40–70 in total. Booking the ferry early can help, and conventional ferries are generally cheaper than hydrofoils.
