Tips

Common questions

Is there a direct train from Granada to Toledo?

No. You travel by Renfe AVE high-speed train from Granada to Madrid Puerta de Atocha, about three and a quarter to three and three-quarter hours, then take an Avant train from Atocha to Toledo, about 33 minutes. With a sensible connection, the whole trip takes about five hours. Book both legs ahead.

How long is the drive from Granada to Toledo?

About four hours for roughly 380 km, heading north on the A-44 and A-4 and then crossing La Mancha to Toledo. The usual route is toll-free. Toledo's historic centre is hilly with narrow streets and restricted access, so park in one of the car parks below the old town.

What is the cheapest way from Granada to Toledo?

Buses are usually cheapest: an ALSA coach to Madrid followed by a bus to Toledo, totalling about €25–45, though the trip takes six to seven hours. Early-booked high-speed train fares can be close in price and much faster. Driving is good value for a group.

Can I stop in Madrid on the way?

Yes, and it is a sensible choice. Many travellers spend a night or two in Madrid between Granada and Toledo, then visit Toledo on a day trip or stay there. Trains to Toledo leave from Madrid Puerta de Atocha, so book the Avant leg separately when you know your plans.
