How to get from Folegandros to Ios
Folegandros and Ios are neighbouring Cyclades islands linked by ferry only. In summer several boats a week, often daily, make the trip in about 1 h to 1 h 30 on high-speed or conventional ferries; in winter sailings are rare.
Best option: Ferry. Neither island has an airport, so the ferry is the only way.

Tips
- Folegandros's port is Karavostasis; the island's buses meet most boats.
- Ios port (Gialos) is a short bus or taxi ride to Chora.
- High-speed boats are more affected by strong winds; conventional ferries cancel less often.
- Book a day or two ahead in August.
Common questions
How long is the ferry from Folegandros to Ios?
About an hour on a high-speed boat and up to about two hours on a conventional ferry, depending on whether it stops at Sikinos or other islands. In summer there is usually at least one boat a day. Check the current timetable on Greek ferry booking sites, as schedules are published for each season.
Is there a flight from Folegandros to Ios?
No. Neither Folegandros nor Ios has an airport. The nearest airports are on Santorini and Milos. The only way to travel between the two islands is by ferry, which is short and direct in summer. In winter, sailings are infrequent and may involve longer routes.
Can I visit Ios as a day trip from Folegandros?
Sometimes. On summer days with a morning boat out and an evening boat back, you can spend several hours on Ios. Timetables do not always allow this, so check both directions before planning. Strong meltemi winds can cancel fast boats, which could leave you overnight.
Do I need to book the Folegandros–Ios ferry in advance?
In July and August it is advisable, especially on high-speed boats with limited seats. Outside high season you can usually buy tickets at the port agencies on the day. Book online with the operator or a Greek ferry site and keep the e-ticket on your phone.
